Sure, you can retreat to isolation and be a hermit, and yes, it would be real and honest, but even more miserable and no less pointless than society. Life is an opera, you take your parts and you play them, only it's real and it hurts. The only thing that makes the reality of the pointlessness and emptiness of our lives bearable is each other. Sharing insights and experiences. Personal progress and accomplishments are fulfilling and satisfying but they are not the things you will be thinking about on your death bed, I guarantee. When something bad happens it's overwhelming. Whatever it is though, it doesn't matter. At the same time I guess it isn't good to be numb to pain.
